Newcomb, NY is located in Essex County in the heart of the Adirondack Park. A small and closely-knit community with a rich history in a beautiful location. Offering hiking, biking, camping, horse-back riding, access to the High Peaks, Hudson River, Essex Chain Lakes, and much more.

Goodnow Flow, with its scenic 3.5-mile lake and 8,000 acres of land, is located just across from Otter Pond and may be enjoyed by Otter Pond members subject to applicable GFA rules for Otter Pond's membership in GFA.

Located in the 13,000-acre Santanoni Preserve, this publicly-owned National Historic Landmark is one of the earliest examples of an Adirondack Great Camp. Visit by foot, bicycle, horse-drawn wagon, ski or snowshoe. 

The 275-acre Lake Harris in Newcomb, which connects to the Hudson River, offers boating, swimming, a public beach, fishing, and camping. A great place to unwind! The Town Beach is the location for the Lions Chicken BBQ, the Fireman's Steak Roast, Bands on the Beach, and Newcomb Day.  

Newcomb is home to the 9-hole High Peaks municipal golf course with beautiful fairways, elevated sloping greens, and stunning views of the Adirondack High Peaks. A challenging and fun course for all ages. Open May through October.

The AIC is part of the Newcomb Campus for the SUNY ESF and offers public programs, events, speaker series, courses and other activities throughout the year to the public. AIC is a unique natural, cultural and recreational resource. 

As the southern access point into the High Peaks, the Upper Works trailhead, steeped in history, provides hikers access to miles and miles of trails leading into the High Peaks Wilderness. In addition to hiking, this area provides opportunities for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, paddling, camping, and more.  

The Essex Chain Lakes Complex contains 18 water bodies totaling 785 acres that range in size from 3-acre Chub Pond to 216-acre Third Lake. Ten miles of the Hudson River on the eastern boundary and four miles of the Cedar River in the southern section make this is a paddler’s paradise.
